Happy Mother's Day

By Kimberly Chast

May I be one of the first to wish you a Happy Mother's Day. I know we all have different expectations for the day. My prayer is your children truly let you know how much you are appreciated.

Let's look at some scripture to see how God sees your work as a Mom. Matthew 25:40 says, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." Children in bible times were often considered unimportant and would certainly rank as the least.

As Christian Working Moms we have many roles. We are Moms, workers, possibly spouses, daughters, church workers, community helpers, volunteer coaches, and the list could go on and on.

Yet, being a Mom is an extremely special and sometimes frustrating job. Do you realize your work as a Mom has eternal value? Do you know how much God values what you do for your children?

The Bible is telling us when we take care of our children it is as if we were doing it for Jesus. Does that change how you see your daily drudgery of diapers, car pools, meals, laundry, and I could go on and on. Our children are on loan from God and when we take care of them we are ministering his love and care with earthly hands. We are doing holy work in our daily tasks.

In Proverbs 31, a wonderful chapter about a Godly woman and may I add a working Mom, verse 28 says, "her children arise and call her blessed." The answer to why they call her blessed is found in verse 30, "Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting: but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." This Mom had her priorities in order and the first was to fear her Lord. When she did that everything fell into place.

Fellow CWM's you are serving God everyday in your workplace and in your home. When your children see you pray in the good times and bad; they are seeing that your trust is in God alone. When you patiently listen to their problems you are showing God's love and care for them. When you correct and discipline them you are showing that a loving God chastens us when we sin.

As many of you know I am also a Marriage and Family Therapist. I have seen over and over again a person's view of God is often based on their parents. If a person had abusive parents, they see God as a God who is waiting to zap or punish them. The reverse is true, if their parents loved and cared for them they know they can trust God to take care of them. Every small thing you do for your child each day is helping them and you are also helping them in their view of God.

When I read comments you all have left on surveys or the CWM blog I am in awe of all you do. You all are hard working and truly trying to serve God. Thank you for all you do for your children. You are a Mom with lots of hats to wear, yet as a CWM you know that pointing your children to Christ is the most important thing you can ever do.

So, if you have a great Mother's Day or a disappointing one please allow me to thank you and say God sees all you do. God says, "when you have done it to the least of these, you have done it to me." You are not just taking care of your children, you are showing God your love for all he has done for you.

My prayer is you will see how your every day tasks of loving your children has eternal significance.
